Rickover Regatta 2019

New Trier in front of the fleet, and the city.

This past weekend many JV sailors participated in the Rickover Academy Sea Dragon Regatta at Chicago Yacht Club. New Trier entered four pairs of sailors in the regatta–Casey and Will, Markus and Molly, George and Cal, and Ben and Ally. Overall, ten boats sailed in the regatta, including teams from Walter Payton College Prep, Latin School of Chicago, and the Hyman G. Rickover Naval Academy. The sailing started around 9:30. The wind was blowing around 9-12 knots from the southeast and the water was slightly choppy. However, sailors were in for a surprise when the wind shifted almost ninety degrees during the third race, which had to be abandoned. It shifted another ninety degrees during the lunch break and was coming from the north when sailors went back out for three races in the afternoon. Over the course of the day, nine races were started and eight were completed. All New Trier teams did extremely well in the regatta and finished in the top five in most races. Overall, Ally and Ben finished in seventh, Markus and Molly finished in third, Cal and George finished in second, and Casey and Will finished in first and won the Rickover Sea Dragon Regatta. Congratulations to all sailors for great racing.
