NTS Varsity sailors Izzy Rietz, Ann Tokoyoda, Ari Angueira, Casey Bertocchi, Lucy Elvart and Caroline McClain on the shores of Lake Minnetonka.

On September 25 and 26, 2021 the New Trier Varsity girls sailed at the MISSA Girls Qualifier Regatta in Minnetonka, MN, to qualify for the PCISA Girls Invitational in San Diego, CA. Ari Angueira ’22, Casey Bertocchi ’22, Lucy Elvart ’24, Caroline McClain ’24, Izzy Rietz ’23, and Ann Tokoyoda ’24 all participated. Lucy and Caroline sailed A Division while Ari and Casey sailed B Division, with Ann and Izzy sailing races 3 and 4 in B. Over the course of both days, a full round robin of twenty races was sailed on Lake Minnetonka.

On Saturday winds were from the WSW at 5-12 knots and the lake was very flat. The Race Committee ran 12 races, 6 in A Division and 6 in B Division. New Trier finished the day in 6th place overall. After the sailing, we all went out for pizza to celebrate the birthday of one of the St. Ignatius sailors.

On Sunday the breeze was considerably lighter, but we were still able to sail 8 races in total. The team ended up finishing in 4th overall and 6th in A Division, qualifying for the PCISA Girls Invitational in San Diego, CA. Ari and Casey won B division with 36 points. Good job Trevians and see you in California! Thanks to Coach Addie for coaching us at the regatta and to Izzy’s and Caroline’s moms for driving and chaperoning.
