Seven New Trier sailors headed to Wisconsin last weekend for the Pewaukee Fall Scramble. Pairings were a bit unusual, as many of the team’s girl sailors were in Michigan for a girl’s-only regatta, in effect making Pewaukee a (mostly) boys’ event.
Garrett Cook ’20 and George Barton ’22 put up impressive numbers in the Varsity boat, A division with four first-place finishes. Ted Lutton ’20 and Peter Smith ’21 were super-consistent in the B division, with not a single score out of the top 10 and one bullet. After St. Ignatius’s B-boat was disqualified from race 9 in a protest, New Trier secured 1st place overall, 1st place in B division, and 2nd place in A division. Go Trevs!
Aiden Lane ’20 and Cal Lutton ’22 skippered the A- and B-divisions, respectively, in New Trier’s second boat. Amit Patel ’21, Sammy Stober ’20 (who came up on Sunday after acing the ACT on Saturday), and Cora Star (on loan from Walter Payton H.S.) crewed. Cal was impressive in his debut as a skipper, getting 7th, 9th, and 4th in his last three races of the regatta with guidance from Sammy in the front of the boat. The last race ended up as a dogfight between the Lutton brothers, with Ted edging out Cal at the final mark to secure 3rd place in that race.
