8/21 NEW SAILOR OPEN HOUSE CANCELLED
DEAR PROSPECTIVE AND RETURNING SAILORS,
Unfortunately, the scheduled new sailor open house for this Sunday has been cancelled due to traffic and parking concerns at Belmont related to the Air and Water Show and a large regatta. We encourage anyone who is not familiar with our sailing venue at Chicago Yacht Club, Belmont Harbor to visit on their own simply to see where we sail. All interested sailors are invited to attend the Kick-Off meeting on Monday, August 29th, 7-8:30 @ the Wilmette Public Library on the corner of Wilmette and Park Ave. Feel free to arrive as early at 6:45. A new sailor Q & A will be held at the end of the meeting (8-8:30 pm) to answer questions and discuss required gear etc… Below is a quick overview of the season:
- Fall Kick-Off Meeting on Monday, August 29th 7-8:30 pm @ the Wilmette Public Library (lower level) for both returning and new sailors. This meeting is mandatory for all sailors and a parent to attend. Required forms will be completed and collected. For new sailors, team and yacht club fees will not be collected until after tryouts are complete.
- Sailing begins September 6th after school 3:30-7:30/7:45 (includes bus travel time)
- Tryouts for Varsity, JV and Development team to be held the first week of the season.
- Practice Schedule is: JV and Varsity T-Th (3:30-7:45), Sat (10-4), Varsity only Wed (3:30-730), Development Sat only (10-4). Bus will be provided Tues and Thurs only.
- The fall calendar can be found on www.newtriersailing.com
along with other important information in the “About” section regarding the team, required gear and fees.
In the coming days, you will be receiving a Google Survey to get a better idea of your sailing experience and level of interest in fall sailing. Prior to the Kick-Off, we ask that you review our “about” section on www.newtriersailing.com, and consider your interest in trying out for Varsity or Junior Varsity, or starting with the Development squad. The sailing team is a large time commitment and it is important to seriously consider your other extracurricular and academic commitments. As always, we have a large number of interested sailors and the first week of the season will be dedicated to tryouts and team assignments. The team can typically accommodate about 25 sailors on the JV and Varsity combined. However, this number varies depending on level of experience and skipper-crew combinations. For less experienced or less committed sailors, the Development team on Saturdays can be a great starting point!
We look forward to seeing everyone on 8/29 at which time we will discuss team commitment, the fall calendar, transportation, team fees, gear, and collect required forms. In the meantime, feel free to be in touch with questions and share this email with any friends who may have planned on attending the Open House this Sunday. If you are no longer interested in sailing this fall, please let us know via email so that we can remove you from our contact list.
Enjoy the final week of summer,
Beth Gordon
